Ceramic Vs Carbon Fibre

Ceramic vs Carbon Fibre                                                                      Back to Emitters

At Far North Wellness we can build your sauna either out of the Fusion Duo-Wall Ceramic Ultra Low EMFRTM emitters or out of Activated Carbon Fibre. We would much rather you know the advantages and disadvantages of each emitter so that you make an educated decision. Both of our emitters produce over 70% of their emissions in the 7-10 micron range which is excellent. A slight edge would go to the ceramic as it produces 90% of its emissions in the Far Infrared Spectrum (5-14 microns) where as the carbon fibre is at 80% in that range. This is a very minor difference and you would not be able to notice it. What you will notice however is the physics of how each one heats your body. Watch Demo

Carbon fibre was built for use in the lay down or dome saunas. In this application it works excellent and we would not even consider using ceramic for it. Unfortunately the physics do not hold true when using carbon fibre in an upright wooden sauna. With ceramic emitters you retain the ability to zone heat specific body parts. For example if you had a bad back, neck or shoulder that you wanted to treat more than your foot, you can do that in a ceramic sauna, you cannot do that in a carbon fibre sauna. Carbon fibre has the same power but spreads the infrared out over a larger area so for any given portion of it you are receiving less infrared. Watch Demo We supply to over 200 different Naturopaths, Chiropractors, Massage therapists and Spas across North America, they always want to know we build with ceramic emitters in the wood saunas and carbon fibre in the lay down or dome saunas so that their clients can get the benefits of zone heating.

We always encourage people to try a good quality carbon fibre and a good quality ceramic, when they do, we have over 99% that go with the ceramic emitters for the wooden saunas. We do talk to people that phone in to ask why the carbon fibre was not of making them sweat nearly as much as the ceramic in a wooden sauna. This goes right back to the zone heating aspect of the emitters. If you think of the physics of how your body sweats and you look at two different scenarios:

1) When we warm up your arm, your entire body does not burst into sweat, this is not how your body works. But...

2) If we warm up the core of your body you will get profuse sweating throughout your entire body. It makes more sense when we design a sauna to allocate more far infrared energy on your core than it does on your foot. The rest of the emitters are designed to give you a full bath in the infrared but you will receive a higher concentration on your core which is where you also store the majority of your toxins.

A few points to remember about carbon fibre in wood saunas that they don’t tell you when they are trying to sell you on it.

1) No Zone heating. You cannot control where the infrared energy goes, that is why it needs a dome shape to be effective.

2) Good quality carbon fibre will produce 90%+ infrared energy, poor quality will produce less than 25%. The same is true for ceramics.

3) Emitters go above the head so there is a lot of lost energy in the wooden saunas.

4) Warm up time is much longer. Carbon Fibre saunas will warm up to about 40 degrees Celsius at the same rate as a ceramic, but it is the time to travel from 40-55 that is very long in a carbon fibre unit whereas the ceramic gets up there with out any problems.

5) As it is only within the past few years that carbon fibre has been applied in a wooden unit  there have been several warranty and electrical problems with it. That is not a criticism against any company in particular, but with a new technology in a new application it should be expected that there will be some hurdles. One of the largest companies in the USA just went out of business due to a recall on the carbon fibre that they were using View Recall Warning
